Collet Assembly

Collets are used with Expanding Mandrels or with Arrangements for Contracting. Expanding & Contracting arrangement for collets consists of several integrated parts which makes it a total self-operative unit. Depending upon the nature of operation to be performed on the work piece, the expansion or contraction is achieved through a inter-related series of parts like drawbars, expander / contractor housing, face plates, clamps, job rest pads, spring loads, centers, sleeves, segmented taper wedges, locking pins etc.

Designed in terms of metallurgy & geometry considering the type of machining operation and expected force generation on the work piece. For Eg:In a grinding collet, where a repetitive collar grinding operation is done, the geometry of collet assembly is critically and skillfully controlled so that each job is located and clamped by the collet in same position within accuracy in microns, thereby saving time in machine setting achieving higher productivity & uniform quality.

Expanding Mandrel :
Expanding Type Collet Assembly comes with a variety of Expanding mechanisms like :

Face Plate Operated Drawbar
Spigot Operated Drawbar
Between Center Taper Mandrel
Nut Operated Face Plate
Spring Pushed Segmented Pieces on Taper Expander Mandrel etc.

All components of the expansion mechanism are finely tuned to produce high-precision concentric expansion along the datum line of the machine. Metallurgical control ensures optimum elasticity.

Contracting Sleeve :

This is a type of Collet Assembly which is used for working on Shaft-Type work pieces, as compared to Expanding Type Collet Assemblies, which is used for holding Work-pieces with bores.

The mechanism is so designed to pull the contracting collet backward with the help of springs, spacers, contractor housing, contracting collet. Center is provided to support the non-working end of the work-piece. Differential hardness is produced on the collet considering the nature of the machining operation to be performed.

Double Angle Collet :

This is a special type high precision collet for double gripping of tools to prevent overhanging. This product requires extreme geometrical accuracy in terms of concentricity, finest surface finish along with a highly wear resistant metallurgical structure. Prevention of tool overhang increases tool life, accuracy and surface finish in machining.

For longer life, these collets are also available in special hard facing coated variety.
